Introduction to the Physical Examination

Before the users of this begin exploring the Physical Examination section of the ASCM site, it is important to note the following:

• The videos presented here are meant as teaching aids, not the last word in physical examination.
   
• Often there are different ways to perform an examination, but we only present one version of each exam here.  Different techniques can be discussed with your ASCM tutor.
   
• This site is meant to supplement the ASCM I Student Coursebook, not replace it.
   
• Many of the videos and associated notes go beyond what is expected of a Year 1 ASCM student.  Use the ASCM coursebook as a guide to what you should know for ASCM performance evaluations.
   
• The notes that accompany the videos are meant to supplement and clarify the information in the video (i.e., if the video explains a point adequately, it may not be mentioned in the notes).
